About the publication and its historical scope
A reference library that connects events with their context and evidence.
Wars of Israel is an independent publication about wars, battles, military operations and related armed events involving the Jewish community of the Land of Israel and the State of Israel. It exists to make the sequence and significance of those events easier to understand, while keeping their sources and uncertainties visible.
What the site covers
The main historical library begins around 1900 and follows the late Ottoman period, the British Mandate, the establishment of Israel and later conflicts. It includes broad war histories and more focused accounts of battles, operations, uprisings, riots, attacks and incidents. A small ancient-history section distinguishes biblical narratives, later traditions and archaeological evidence. News and analysis connect current developments with relevant historical context.
How to explore
Start with the historical index if you know a name, place or period. The timeline helps put events in sequence, while the map connects records to locations. Each account should explain what happened, what evidence supports it and why its outcome mattered. A concise reference entry and an in-depth article serve different reading needs; neither should conceal uncertainty to make the story simpler.
Evidence and independence
The editorial policy requires named sources, attribution of contested claims and a clear distinction between reporting and interpretation. Official accounts are evidence to examine, not automatic proof of every claim they contain. The site is run by its owner as an independent publication and is not affiliated with the IDF, the Ministry of Defense or any government. Labeled partner content is separate from editorial coverage.
Two editions and a shared standard
Hebrew and English editions present the same factual account in natural language for their readers. Articles use the collective byline Wars of Israel editorial team. That byline does not imply a named expert, eyewitness or institution behind an article. Send questions, sources or corrections to [email protected].
